Past Events

Tamworth Ladies’ Choir has had long associations with Neath Male Voice Choir, Treverva Male Voice Choir from Falmouth and Shifnal and District Male Voice Choir and have had many joint concerts with them, either in Tamworth or their home town.

In April 2016 whilst visiting the Treverva choir for a concert. the ladies were fortunate to also have a concert with the Culdrose Military Wives Choir at their base in Helston, Cornwall. This was a concert to remember.

In May 2017 Tamworth Ladies’ Choir visited Weston Super Mare to sing with Joyful Spirit Gospel Choir at a concert in aid of Weston Street Pastors

The choir’s first Summer Sunday Afternoon Tea Concert on 6th August 2017. This was Musical Director, Hilary Griffiths first concert with the choir.

Our first Afternoon Christmas Mulled Wine and Mince Pie concert was held on 17th December 2017 at St Editha’s Community Room.

To raise funds for St Giles Hospice the choir held a concert in St Editha’s Church with their invited guests the Tamworth Wind band in March 2018.

In May 2018 Tamworth Ladies’ Choir joined forces with the Mercian Singers at Lichfield Methodist Church to raise funds for The Alzheimer’s Society. A total of £1,000 was raised.

The choir visited Shifnal in October 2018 for a concert with Shifnal and District Male Voice Choir at Trinity Methodist Church. This was the third joint concert with them.

Sunday 11th November 2018 saw the choir singing in the Tamworth Castle Grounds at the Remembrance Day Service.

In December 2018 the choir sang for the fifth time at the St Giles Hospice “Light up a Life” service at St Editha’s Church

Our second Afternoon Christmas Mulled Wine and Mince Pies concert was held on 9th December 2018

In March 2019 we once again joined with Tamworth Wind Band for a joint concert in aid of St Giles Hospice. As a finale the choir sang Jerusalem accompanied by the Wind Band and the newly refurbished St Editha’s Church organ. This was our fourth joint concert with them.

Another concert at St Editha’s Church to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society was held on 12th May 2019, on this occasion we were once again joined by the Mercian Singers.

Our third Summer Afternoon Tea Party Concert was held in August 2019 and was a great success.

Polesworth Abbey was the venue for a concert in October 2019 with Shifnal and District Male Voice Choir.

In October 2019 we were guests at a concert by the Mercian Singers in St Editha’s Church.

In December 2019 we once again sang at the St Giles Hospice “Light up a Life” service at St Editha’s Church.

December 2019 also brought our third Afternoon Christmas Mulled Wine and Mince Pie Concert at St Editha’s Community Room

Later in December 2019 the choir sang carols and Christmas songs as part of the Tamworth Victorian Fayre in the Tamworth Castle Grounds.

The choir’s penultimate performance of 2019, 18th December was Carol Singing at The Amington Inn, Tamworth

The final engagement for 2019 was Carol Singing at Lea Marston Hotel on Christmas Eve.

 All planned concerts and engagements for 2020 up to December 2021 were then cancelled due to the Corona Virus outbreak and subsequent lockdowns and restrictions.

This included our planned concert in March 2020 with the City of Coventry Male Voice Choir.

The choir’s first outing after lockdown and the easing of restrictions was to sing at the “Light up a Life” service at St Editha’s Church for St Giles Hospice on 4th December 2021

The day after the St Giles service the choir held their annual Afternoon Christmas Mulled Wine and Mince Pie Concert at St Editha’s Community Rooms. This was a great success and the choir were able to sing together without the use of Zoom for the first time for many months.

We were once again invited to sing carols and Christmas songs at The Amington Inn on 12th December 2021 where once again our hosts laid on food and refreshments for us.

The final engagement for 2021 was at The Queens Head public house in Lichfield where a small group of members sang a selection of carols and Christmas songs.

Whenever possible when restrictions allowed in 2021 members of the choir have sung a selection of traditional songs at Tamworth Memory Café which is designed for people suffering with Dementia. This will be an ongoing engagement for the choir.

Choir visit to see the “Opera Boys” at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Cannock. The first social event of 2022.

Friday 11th March 2022

The choir provided backing vocals and sang a couple of songs from their own repertoire supporting the Tenors Unlimited – That’s Amore, nationwide tour, at Tamworth Assembly Rooms.

To be asked to do this is a great compliment and honour for the choir and the evening was a great success.

Concert at St Peter’s Church, Tamworth with guests The City of Coventry Male Voice Choir.

The evening was a great success and Hilary Griffiths who is Musical Director of both choirs breathed a sigh of relief when it was over.

Saturday 7th May 2022

Joint concert with Mercian Singers and the school choir of the Landau Forte Academy at St Editha’s Church  for Ukrainian Charities.

Saturday 18th June 2022

A concert at St Editha’s Church, Tamworth, with guest choir Joyful Spirit Gospel Choir from the Weston super Mare area of Somerset. A night of varied styles and content with the finale with both choirs singing ABBA’s  Dancing Queen. This concert was originally planned for 2021 but had to be postponed due to COVID.

Tuesday 2nd August 2022

The choir took part in an event to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s UK at All Saints Church, Sheepy Magna. Several other choirs participated together with the Earl Shilton Bell Ringers. Over £1000 was raised.

Sunday 7th August 2022

The annual Summer Afternoon Tea and Cakes Concert was held at St. Editha’s Community Room and the event was very well attended and the choir were in fine voice. Several choir members performed solo items ranging from topical poems, playing a selection of Scottish songs on the recorder, a solo by Diane Plant and finally Rhona told us the story of Buying a Swimming Costume.

The Choir were the guests of Mercian Singers at their Annual Concert at St Editha’s Church, Tamworth and performed a varied programme of songs showing their wide repertoire.

Sunday 11th December 2022

The Choir’s Annual Christmas Mince Pies and Mulled Wine Concert was a great success.

Choir members performed solos, monologues, poems and for the first time some members performed tap dancing routines.

Tuesday 13th December 2022

The Choir performed at All Saints Church, Sheepy Magna at a concert to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

Whilst there wasn’t a full turnout the performance was very well received and the evening raised a considerable sum of money for this worthy cause.

The Choir Annual Dinner was held at Wishaw Country Sports carvery and over sixty attended this very enjoyable and low key event.

The joint concert with Tamworth Wind Band at St Paul’s Church, Fazeley was a great success and it was a pleasure to join the wind band again and gave the choir a chance to “premiere” some new songs in their repertoire. 

Saturday 13th May 2023

Several members of the choir attended the annual concert of Morriston Rugby Football Club Male Choir in Morriston, near Swansea.

They were guests of Mr Paul Knight a long time supporter of Tamworth Ladies’ Choir who travels from Neath to all TLC concerts. Paul is now a member of the Morriston RFC Male Choir since the decline of the Neath Male Voice Choir. TLC have had many joint concerts with Neath MVC over a long period of time. The Morriston Choir was sixty + strong and the concert was excellent. The choir members stayed over on Saturday evening after enjoying a very good “After Glow” at the rugby club.

Our annual Summer Afternoon Tea and Cakes Concert was a great success again with a capacity audience at St Editha’s  Community Room. The audience were not only treated to some terrific singing from the choir but also tap dancers, poets, a ukulele group and a love song Y Deryn Pur (The Pure Bird) sung in Welsh by choir member Gaynor Goddard.

Friday 29th September 2023

A few members of the choir went to Bonehill Lodge Residential Care Home where one of its former members, Thelma Peet is a resident.

The Ladies sang a range of well known songs from the musicals as well as classics such as Clementine and Home on the Range. The residents sang along with them and it was a great success for all concerned. Thelma was able to join the choir and sing along with some of her personal favourites.

Saturday 11th November 2023

A group of ladies from the choir with their friends and partners attended a concert in Ludlow given by Ludlow Male Voice Choir and their guests The Morriston RFC Male Voice Choir, a premier Welsh choir. Both choirs performed a wide rang of songs and it was a very enjoyable social evening. 

Sunday 19th November 2023

Thirteen members of the choir are attending a Choir Festival at Stoke Golding organised by the Ambion Voices Choir. The Ladies’ choir Musical Director Hilary Griffiths  lead one of the Workshops. Four choirs took part and each sang two of the songs from their own repertoire at the end of the day, followed by a Finale song composed by a member of the Ambion Voices musical team.

Friday 1st December 2023

The Choir sang at a Memorial Service in St Editha’s Church, organised by Co-op Funeral Care and St Giles Hospice. The choir’s rendition of “Remember Me” was very well received. .

Sunday 10th December 2023

Annual Christmas Mince Pies and Mulled Wine Concert at St Editha’s Community Rooms, was a great success with a sell out audience. The choir were joined by guests the nationally well known Tuxedo Junction Barbershop Chorus. 

Sunday 28th January 2024

Choir Annual Lunch at Wishaw  Country Sports. The choir decided to use this venue again as it was exceptional for our 2023 Annual Lunch.

Over fifty members, partners and friends had a very good afternoon enjoying good food in good company.

Saturday 17th February 2024

Concert at St Editha’s Church Tamworth in aid of the Cohort 4 charity. This charity provides support for women in North Warwickshire who are survivors of abuse, have previous convictions, mental health difficulties, are lonely and isolated or financially disadvantaged. On this occasion the choir were joined by The Rock Choir who sang a variety of well know pop classics. The evening was a great success.
